October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

However, Personal Development Center sponsors various awareness activities and fundraising events throughout the year to help support Domestic Violence and supportive services in our community.

"5K Walk/Run to End Domestic Violence"

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month - February

Teen Dating Violence (DV) Prevention and Awareness Month is a national effort to raise awareness about abuse in teen and 20-something relationships and promote programs that prevent it during the month of February.

The repercussions of teen dating violence are impossible to ignore – they hurt not just the young people victimized but also their families, friends, schools and communities. Throughout February, organizations and individuals nationwide are coming together to highlight the need to educate young people about dating violence, teach healthy relationship skills and prevent the devastating cycle of abuse.

Teen DV month, also known as the National Resource Center for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, is sponsored by Break the Cycle and love is respect as a collaborative effort to promote February as "teen DV month". For more information go to http://www.teendvmonth.org

Personal Development Center Activities: Several presentations were given at the Marshfield schools throughout the month by the Youth Advocate. Some activities included: purple ribbons on lockers with quotes and statistics, the girls basketball team wore purple shoelaces in their shoes during games all month, a purple shirt day was organized, and daily announcements were held.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month - April

The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. For more information go to http://www.nsvrc.org

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to recognize that we each can play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in communities. For more information go to http://www.nctsn.org

International Supervised Visitation Center Awareness Month - May

The Orange Ribbon is the international symbol used to promote Supervised Visitation Awareness Month during the month of May. Supervised Visitation Centers exist to provide a safe place for children during parental visitation to allow children to build healthy relationships with both parents. Supervised visitation is far more complex than just babysitting parents who are visiting with their children. Each family brings unique issues with them. Each family is managed with dignity and compassion during their time of conflict. A Supervised Visitation Facilitator is diligently prepared to insure the safety of all participants while providing a healthy environment for non-custodial parents to connect with their children.

Elder & Vulnerable Adult Abuse Awareness Month - June

Elder abuse is a global issue, and this annual observance is held on June 15th. Contact your local aging services organizations to find out how your community will participate, and help to raise awareness by talking about the issue. For more information go to http://www.ncea.aoa.gov

Domestic Violence Awareness Month - October

Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the first Day of Unity observed in October, 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect battered women’s advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became a special week when a range of activities were conducted at the local, state, and national levels.

Personal Development Center Activities:

“5K Fun Run/Walk to End Domestic Violence” – Clark County

A 5K Fun Run/Walk to End Domestic Violence is held in Thorp. This non-competitive event invites runners and walkers to help us promote awareness as the run/walk guides everyone through the town guided by purple ribbons and signs.
