2013 Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Thorp Walk to End Domestic Abuse

Our 3rd Annual Walk to End Domestic Abuse was held on October 5th in Thorp. We had expected a rainy walk but skies cleared just as we were about to start. About 50 walkers joined us for the 5K walk/run. A light snack and door prizes were given to the walkers afterwards. Thank you to everyone who made our walk a success this year!

Candle Light Vigil

Our Candle Light Vigil was held on October 10th at City Hall Strohman Park; 35 individuals attended to help us remember those who lost their lives to domestic homicide and to celebrate the survivors of domestic violence. Patti Heller from the Marshfield Clinic Healthy Birth Program spoke to the group about her connection and collaboration with PDC and how our services are vital to the community. She also paid tribute to Maise, a young woman that she worked with who was a victim of domestic violence homicide last year.

As the names of each homicide victim was read, a purple balloon was released. One white balloon was released in celebration of all those who have survived domestic abuse followed by a moment of silence.

Refreshments were served and a PDC staff was presented with a plaque.

Marshfield Walk for Awareness

The weather was cool but sunny for our annual Walk for Awareness on October 25th. We gathered at Strohman Park; 26 individuals started our walk down Central Avenue carrying purple ribbon signs and streamers. We ended our walk at Wesley United Methodist Church. We were greeted by the church’s women’s group who prepared a wonderful lunch for everyone who walked. A warm welcome was given by Marilyn, and Mayor Chris Meyer read the City of Marshfield’s proclamation written for domestic violence awareness month.
